We’re excited to share that HeliMods has been featured in Contact Magazine by The University of Queensland, in a story titled “Mission Control: HeliMods Founder Proves the Sky’s No Limit”. The article highlights the journey of our Founder and Managing Director, Will Shrapnel, and the incredible work our team is doing to push the boundaries of aerospace innovation from regional Queensland.
The feature explores the evolution of HeliMods from a single hangar at Caloundra Aerodrome to a cutting-edge aerospace facility with seven hangars and over 50 staff. It showcases our recent partnership with the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS), where we’ve been entrusted to modify seven Beechcraft King Air B360 aircraft for advanced aeromedical missions. These aircraft are being fitted with world-first technologies, including push-button loading medical stretchers, integrated oxygen systems, and digital connectivity to support remote healthcare delivery.
“This partnership with the Royal Flying Doctor Service is one of the most significant projects we’ve worked on here at HeliMods in our 20 years in business,” said Will Shrapnel. “It’s an opportunity to provide unique technology to an iconic Australian brand that’s going to make a major impact and difference across regional Queensland.”
The article also highlights our commitment to community engagement, local talent development, and STEM education. Will’s deep ties to UQ and the Sunshine Coast community are reflected in his leadership roles and volunteer work, as well as our immersive work-experience programs designed to inspire the next generation of engineers.
Looking ahead, HeliMods is exploring frontier technologies including autonomous systems, AI, and next-generation vertical-lift aircraft – positioning us at the forefront of urban air mobility and aerospace innovation.
